Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let Down your Golden Hair....

This is my next installment of photos from State Day. The following are just random room boxes that people had brought in to share. This first one was my absolute favorite, it is a castle tower top with Rapunzel inside. It was amazing! My photos really don't do it justice.

These two are a sample for next years project, it is themed "As Time Goes By". The clock is a working clock & the room box below is made out of foam core & you can make several different scenes for different seasons (for example) and trade then out whenever the mood strikes you. You can also have the clock & scene going horizontal instead of vertical. It seems to have a lot of versatility. I think it would be really fun to do Molly Weasley's clock with all of the different hands....

State Day Continued...

I have finished taking photos of the rest of my goodies which I will post a little at a time over the next few days. I have been having great fun sorting through all of my new finds and planning my new scenes. One of them I know will be an apothecary, and another one will be a greenhouse. I still have yet to decide what to do for my actual project, but maybe if I build it up a bit more it will come to me. Who knows... It it strange how my creativity works sometimes.

Back from State Day

Well, my Daughter and I are recovering from State Day. It was a very long day, but we did have a lot of fun. We got up at 5 am and were out the door by 6. Then drove the 1 1/2 hours to the event. We got there a little early so just took our time checking in & getting all set up. Part of the fun of State Day are the displays that others bring to share. Today I will be showing you some of the samples the hosting club members brought for the project we would be working on at the event. Most of these are take through the plexi-glass cases that were over the scenes, but you can still see them pretty good.

I think it is really neat to see how each person made them all so differently. Hanna (my daughter) has decided to make hers into college dorm room. She is still painting hers so I will post it when she is finished. I am still debating what to turn mine into, but I am leaning towards a gardening/potting room. I saw a few of these in the samples & they were pretty cute. I will post photos of those later. But then again, I am also considering just doing a hodge podge of all the things I love to do. who knows.... I am still building it.

There are several more displays that I will post later, along with the raffles that Hanna & I won. (we each won one-that was exciting!) Also I will have to show you some of my purchases and the mini favors that we came home with.

Well, I finally got a chance to take get some photos onto my borrowed computer.

Below are my first attempt at making candles. I found a tutorial in one of those old magazines from 1992 (I think). So I thought I would try it. They didn't turn out that bad overall, but I think next time I will do it a bit differently. The tutorial calls for using mostly the transparent clay to give it that waxy look, but once that heats up from working with it, it gets really sticky & hard to work with. So next time I am going to find a way to keep the clay cold to make it easier to work with.

The photo's have horrible lighting, but you can get the general idea.

Next are my attempt at mushrooms from the AIM tutorial they had. I had a lot of fun making these, they are so cute. Again the lighting is bad but it is not out of focus. I got the mini wooden pots from my local craft store & painted them Terra-cotta color & they turned out pretty good. This was my first batch & I think I cooked it to long because they actually were a brighter red, but by the time i got them out they were more of a burgundy color. I really couldn't decide if I wanted the spots all over or at the bottom, so they are not all the same.

This is my second batch. It is a bit out of focus, but you can see the color is much brighter this time.

I am going to make 7 little pots just like the above and give out as table favors at our upcoming State Day event. I sure hope everyone likes them. I am relatively new to all of this and I don't have the level of craftsmanship that most of you guys do, but it sure has been fun learning!

Been a while...

It has been a looooong time since I have been able to post. My lovely 13 year old daughter brought a nasty virus onto our computer & we have not been able to fix it. So, I have not been able to do anything on my blog in over 3 months... it is killing me! My neighbor actually got a new computer last week, and kindly let us use their old one until we can figure ours out, so I thought I would try to update my blog while I get a chance. Wow it is hard to think back that far to remember what I have done since then. We had our Mini Christmas party through the mini club I belong to. I have learned how to make those cute little mushrooms that they had in the AIM magazine (either Oct. or Nov.) So I have been having fun with those. Also, someone in our club has old mini magazines from the last 15 years they have been bring them to the meetings to get rid of, so I have been scouring those for tutorials and ideas. I have also learned how to make some mini candles which turned out better than I thought they would. I will have to post some photos later when I can find my USB cord for my camera.

My daughter and I are getting ready to attend out local State Day event which I am really excited about. For those that aren't familiar with State Day, it is a miniature workshop event that is held within your state (North Carolina), and you all get together and work on the same project for the day. This year our theme is "My Little Corner of the World" below is a photo of what the finished project should look like:

You get the option of ordering a case to put your project in, and of course you can change the colors or the flooring etc..., but you all start out with the same basic structure. It is a lot of fun because they have tote bag favors that people make for you to use in your scene if you want to. They also will have drawings throughout the day and you all just hang out & work on your project together. I love to see how creative others can be. One of the ladies in my mini club is setting up a table there to sell her items she makes and she has invited me to sell at her table if I wanted to. It is exciting to think that I might be able to actually sell something that I make! I am really not that good and haven't had much practice, but it is fun for me to at least try. The really bad thing is that I have NO idea how much to charge for my creations.... I have always done my crafts just for me as a creative outlet, It is hard to put a value on it! Oh well, I am just interested to see if I can sell anything!

Bunka Rugs





I guess it took me a while longer than the weekend to get these done. I did get the photos taken on Saturday, but then I got terribly sick & today is the first day I have felt like even getting on the computer. I realize now that the photos aren't that great, but you can get the idea. This is my bunka rug of one of my (many) favorite Disney characters "Squirt". The first photo is blurry, but the colors are accurate, the second photo, the colors are horrible, but it is more in focus. This was just one of those pictures that I could not get right no matter how I tried. So I gave up & posted 2.

Below is the bunka rug my daughter made of one of her favorite characters. (we are Disney freaks in our house) In all fairness her colors are not quite right because when I ordered the bunka, I did not know she wanted colors for stitch, so she just worked with what we had on hand. but over all, it turned out pretty good.



This is my little kit I found of a dollhouse for a dollhouse. It is all put together and painted, but I still have some landscaping to do. I had forgotten how fun these little kits were to do. I used to have several of them but the cat ate them, & I gave up which is probably why I found this one at the bottom of a box of mini stuff that had been in storage for years.

That is all I have really done with minis recently. Time just seems to slip by at an amazing speed at the moment. I have also received all 3 of my Etsy purchases for the gift exchange at our mini club, but I cannot post those yet. Our party will be on the 15 of this month, so some time after then I will get them posted along with what we received! Ohh I just love giving gifts!
I cannot wait to see if they love their gifts!

Time flies....

Wow! It has been over a month since I have been able to get on here. Whew, this is a crazy time of year for me! My computer died & had to go through the process of getting it all back in order. It was in the shop for over a week, which just about killed me. Then getting everything reconfigured to how I wanted it to be... well, took a while. Work, Kids, School, & Scouts pretty much took up the rest of my time.
I know this is a bit after the fact, but I do hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Mine was rather unconventional, but wonderful none the less. My husband took both children to see his family for 2 days, so I got to be in my own home ALL BY MYSELF! it was heaven. I can't remember the last time I was actually alone with no interruptions. Probably before the kids were born.
I got some time to work on minis so I did finish another bunka rug & started a 1:144 scale dollhouse kit. I did quite a bit of sorting & organizing (which is when I found the dollhouse for a dollhouse kit). I have yet to touch the garage again.. I am not in the mood to do the garage, but maybe over Christmas....Hopefully, I will get a chance to post some photo's this weekend of the rug & almost done house.

I am also very proud to say that I made my first ever Etsy purchases! I must say that I am NOT an internet shopper... I am more of an instant gratification type of person. I do not do well with waiting for things to arrive when the postman decides it is time for it to come! However I do have to say that it was much easier than I thought it would be & the people were just wonderful! I will post some photos & their info once I receive it & take some photos' but it will have to be after our Miniature clubs Christmas party. They do a gift exchange, so I had to get a gift from me, & then one from each of the kids. They had a lot of fun looking through Etsy trying to find the "perfect" thing. I found some new ones to bookmark as well. :)
